报告摘要:
edge computing, as an extension of cloud computing, distributes computing and storage resources from centralized cloud to distributed edge servers to power a variety of applications demanding low latency, such as iot services, virtual reality, and real-time navigation. it enables a new type of service systems in close geographic proximity to end-users by allowing service providers to place popular data and services on edge servers deployed at base stations. from a service provider's perspective, data needs to be transferred from the cloud to specific edge servers in an area to serve the users in the area. however, according to the pay-as-you-go business model, distributing a large amount of data from the cloud to edge servers can be expensive. without proper transmission strategies, it may cost service providers significantly. thus, cost-effective data distribution strategies are of particular importance for the success of service providers, whose data or services to be placed at the edge often change dynamically. in this report, we analyze the critical challenges to achieve cost-effective data distribution and solve this problem by several different approaches, including steiner trees, lyapunov optimization, and game theory.

dr. xiaoyu xia received the ph.d. degree from deakin university, australia. currently, he is an assistant professor in the school of computing technologies at rmit university, melbourne, australia. before joining rmit university, he was a research fellow at the university of adelaide and a lecturer at university of southern queensland. his research interests include system and security, optimization and ai in edge and cloud computing. he actively serves as pc and reviewers for top international journals and conferences, such as ieee tpds, tmc, tkde, tdsc, tsc, icdcs, etc. he is a member of ieee.
